In a series of short discussions, we will introduce you to the consultants from the Simplify Consulting team. Today we meet one of our lead consultants to find out more about them, their background and the work they are fulfilling at our busy consultancy.

Today’s spotlight is on Jayne Brown Lead Consultant at Simplify Consulting.  Jayne has over 20 years’ experience in the Financial Services Industry and specialises in Business Analysis.  Jayne joined Simplify 4 years ago and as a Lead Consultant leads the Business Analysis team.

What do you do at Simplify?

As one of the Lead Consultants at Simplify, I am responsible for leading client engagements and ensuring we deliver on our promises. There are many reasons why our clients engage with us and it’s my job to understand what they need and how we can best meet this by using our team of experienced consultants.  I really enjoy developing the relationships with our clients and working with them to adopt the right approach for their business.

What’s your past experience?

I started my career working in operations for a Life and Pensions company. This was where I started to learn about different products, how they were different, and how the parts of the operation slot together like a jigsaw puzzle to administer the products and investments. I moved into change roles and have always worked closely with the business which helps strengthen my knowledge and keeps it current. My background has helped in many situations working with our clients. I understand problems our clients face because I have worked in that environment, can relate, and able to offer practical solutions.

Working this past year for a platform and tackling a specific problem area, my operational knowledge has been invaluable in firstly understanding the problem quickly but also being able to assess wider impacts and considering how an issue in one area can cause a domino effect into other areas so easily. Practitioner led consulting brings the ability to hit the ground running into our client engagements.

What’s a common problem that you deal with when working on engagements?

On starting an engagement there will always be documentation that we request, it could be current procedures and process maps or it could be volumetric data for those processes.  This information gives us invaluable insight.  A common problem is that this information is not readily available or doesn’t exist. Nine times out of ten there will be delays in this area whilst our clients try to obtain what we have asked for.  Having a good understanding at the outset of the current processes, process timings and volumes lead us to be able to focus on the areas that need the most improvement.

And finally, what’s your passion outside of work?

Outside of work I am busy managing the project that is my family! There are always out of school clubs at various times, sometimes conflicting, that managing can feel like a job in itself! I like to set myself a personal challenge, usually something physical such as abseiling down the Spinnaker Tower or running the London Marathon was another.  I get a great sense of personal achievement pushing myself in this way and surprising myself as well. In doing events like these in the past, I have supported some amazing charities, either those chosen by Simplify or in the case of the London Marathon a charity of my choice. This year I am running the Jurassic Coast Marathon for Forest Holme Hospice one of our chosen charities for 2022.

Every year Simplify will choose smaller charities to support that are local to us. Charities where our fundraising can make a big difference. We challenge ourselves to make each year bigger and better than the last.
